01Built for proper sessions

The bike that grows with them.

The Rippa 20 is where the kid stops being a kid. Adult-grade components on a kid-sized geometry — built for the rider who's ready to put real hours in.

BRAKE FAST

Hydraulic discs, not cable.

Real adult-grade hydraulic brakes — the kind on proper mountain bikes. Better modulation, less effort, no fade on long descents. The right brakes for the speed this bike does.

RIDE

36V means real range.

10 amp-hour pack on a 36-volt system. 60 to 90 minutes of solid riding before a top-up — depending on weight, terrain and how hard they're hammering.

ERGO

Geometry for bigger kids.

Frame built for the 140-165 cm rider. Reach, wheelbase and bar height all sized for a 9-15 year old, not a scaled-down adult bike or a stretched toy.

02

The first bike in the Zippi range with proper hydraulic brakes and rear suspension — built for kids who are riding harder and wanting more from the bike.

The Rippa 20" is where the range starts feeling like a real bike rather than a kids' toy. 20-inch wheels handle proper trails. Hydraulic disc brakes front and rear give serious stopping power. Rear suspension takes the edge off bumps. 1000W motor pulls a heavier rider confidently. It's the bike most Rippa 16" graduates step up to, and the natural starting point for 8-12 year olds who want a capable ride from day one.

Why the Rippa 20" is the step up

20-inch wheels open up the kind of terrain a 16" can't handle properly — proper off-road, rocky tracks, longer rides over varied ground. The hydraulic disc brakes are the big upgrade over the Rippa 16" — way more progressive feel, way more stopping power, way more confidence going faster. Rear suspension keeps the back wheel planted on bumps and rough trails. The 1000W brushless motor handles inclines and heavier loads (older kid, faster speeds, more aggressive riding) without struggle.

Two speed modes — 20 km/h and 40 km/h. The mode switch is on the bike. Most parents keep it in mode 1 for the first ride or two and unlock mode 2 once the kid is confident handling the extra power.

Why parents pick Zippi

We're two motorcycle families behind Zippi — Toby, Carmen, Laura and Mark. We built every bike in the range for our own kids first. They rode prototypes for two years before we sold a single bike in 2018. Eight years on, we still answer the emails ourselves.

When something goes wrong, you email an Australian family that owns Zippi bikes themselves. Spare parts ship from our Tasmanian warehouse. No call centre, no Shenzhen middleman.

The catchphrase is plain English: raise balanced kids. Bikes are how we do it.

08Common questions

Before you buy.

Sizing, shipping, batteries, warranty. Pulled from real customer emails — full FAQ on its own page.

Who is the Rippa 20″ for?
Kids aged 8–12 who want a bigger, more capable bike with proper hydraulic disc brakes and rear suspension. The Rippa 20″ is the first bike in the range with adult-grade components — 20″ wheels, 40 km/h top speed, hydraulic disc brakes (front and rear), rear shock for varied terrain. Most Rippa 16″ riders end up here around age 8–9; older kids on a first ebike often start straight on it.
What's the difference between the Rippa 20″ and the Rebel 20″ Pro?
Same wheel size, different positioning. The Rippa 20″ is the standard model — 500W motor, 40 km/h, rear suspension only, two speed modes. The Rebel 20″ Pro is the performance step up — 1000W motor, 45 km/h with three speed modes, front AND rear suspension, slightly heavier frame built for harder riding. Most kids who want to keep it mellow stay on the Rippa 20″; kids who are getting serious about off-road or want full suspension go Rebel 20″ Pro.
How fast does the Rippa 20″ go?
40 km/h in mode 2, 20 km/h in mode 1. The mode switch is on the bike, so you can cap top speed at 20 km/h while they're getting used to the bike's extra power and weight. Most parents keep it in mode 1 for the first couple of weeks and unlock mode 2 once the kid's comfortable.
How long does the battery last per charge?
Around 45–60 minutes of real-world ride time from the 42V 5.0Ah lithium battery — bigger pack than the smaller Rippas because the 20″ runs a more powerful motor. Charge time is about 3 hours from flat. The battery is removable for charging on the bench, and spares are available in the parts catalogue.
Can my kid ride the Rippa 20″ on the footpath or street?
No. Like all kids electric balance bikes in Australia, the Rippa 20″ is classified for private property use only. Driveways, back yards, private ovals, designated kids ride parks, off-road trails on private land — all fine. Public roads and footpaths — not legal, not allowed. The 40 km/h top speed makes proper off-road use the natural fit.
What's next after the Rippa 20″?
Two paths. If they want more performance in the same wheel size, the Rebel 20″ Pro is the natural step — 1000W motor (double the Rippa 20″), full front and rear suspension, three speed modes. If they're outgrowing 20″ wheels physically, the Rebel 24″ Pro is the top of the Zippi range — 24″ wheels, 55 km/h, 1500W, DNM AO-8RC suspension. Above that, our sister brand FXB covers higher-powered bikes for teens.
What if something breaks?
Every Zippi comes with a 12-month manufacturer warranty. If something fails, you email us at sales@zippi.net.au and one of us four family members picks it up. Spare parts ship from our Tasmanian warehouse, usually next-day Australia-wide. No call centres here!
How does the Rippa 20″ compare to the Stacyc 20eDRIVE?
The Stacyc 20eDRIVE Brushless is $4,299 AUD. The Rippa 20″ is engineered to a comparable standard at roughly half the price. Both have 20″ wheels and electric drive; the Rippa 20″ adds hydraulic disc brakes (front and rear) and rear suspension as standard, plus a removable lithium battery. The Stacyc 20eDRIVE has a more powerful brushless drivetrain but at more than 2× the price — for most Australian families, the Rippa 20″ is the more accessible option without compromising the riding experience.
